It's almost Valentine's Day, and my kids are super excited! They can't wait for the classroom valentine exchanges.
We started seeing classroom valentines cards at the stores a while ago. But we didn't want the plastic toys that many of the valentines came with. So, we decided to make our own eco-friendly valentine gifts to hand out in their classrooms.

An Eco-Friendly Valentines Gift for Kids
This is the valentines that my second grader will be handing out to his classroom.
After we decided to make our own classroom valentines, we started thinking about what we could give away that is eco-friendly, fun, and wouldn't end up in the trash. My son picked Post-Its Notes. So, we went with it.
Great choice! Giving away sticky notes for a class valentines exchange checked all our boxes:
- Eco-friendly
- Creative
- Fun for an elementary student
- Useful
- Kids would be happy to get
- Won’t immediately be put in the trash
I designed these covers to go over the sticky note pads. The design is simple and sweet. Moreover, he appreciated that it wasn’t too lovey dovey, and no kissy lips!

Elementary students are a really fun bunch. They still think adult things are pretty cool. Post-It Notes fall into that category!
The kids at my son's school are also starting to write notes to one another. So these sticky notes are perfect for that.
Great Printable Teacher Valentines Idea
I will also say that if you are looking for valentines ideas for teachers, this would make a great gift. Teachers would definitely appreciate sticky notes.
Here he is folding his own valentines card. The dotted lines make it easy for him to follow.
Which Sticky Note to Use for this Eco-Friendly Valentines Gift
This printable valentines card can be used with any 3x3-inch sticky note pad. This is the standard square Post-It pads. It perfectly fits sticky note pads with 70 sheets each. However, it would fit the 100 sheet pads too.
We used this set of bright color Post-It Notes from Amazon. It's a set of 24, which is enough for his class. It also matches the color of the free printable below really well.
Here are a couple other sticky note recommendations:
- A set of Power Pink Post-It Notes if you just want one color.
- These Pastel Post-It Notes are made with 100% recycled paper so you can be even more eco-friendly.
How to Assemble these Printable Valentines For Kids
There are a few options how to put this Sticky Notes Valentines together. All three ways are easy to do.
Use a String (keep the valentines plastic free and eco-friendly)
I made some by tying a ribbon around the entire thing. By doing so, it kept the Post-It Note pad secure.
We had various pieces of string at home already. As such, I thought this was the most eco-friendly method for us.
While it looked fab, it was a bit too tricky for him to do himself. Therefore, my kid chose to use stickers.
Use stickers
Do you have stickers laying around the house?
My second grader decided to use little star stickers to keep the sticky note covers closed. Remember these foil star stickers? Well, I found a pack that I've had in my stationary box for as long as I can remember. Finally, they served a good purpose!
Alternatively, sticking to the theme, using conversation heart stickers would be cute too.

This is the coolest thing because I got to wrap sticky notes! It's useful and fun and my friends won't throw it away in the garbage.
