Silver Streak Pothos
Wow, I love the silver streaks on this pothos! It looks like a small paint brush painted on the delicate silver streaks.
This plant commonly goes by the name Silver Streak Pothos. It's much easier to pronounce and remember than its long name - Epipremnum Amplissimum.
If you love silvery houseplants, this plant is a winner. Moreover, it's very apparent why it's given the nickname silver streak.
This pothos is also very easy to take care of. I share my care tips below, as well as suggestions on how to style this gorgeous plant.

Silver Streak Pothos Appearance
The Silver Streak Pothos is eye-catching because it's unique in appearance. It has thin slender leaves that stick out like wild hair.
Each leaf also has thin streaks of silver. The silver streaks look like fine paintbrush strokes.
This houseplant is a silvery blue green color. Mature plants can either climb up a moss pole, or trail downwards. The leaves will not fenestrate, meaning they will stay the same slender shape.

How Do You Take Care of a Silver Streak Pothos?
Silver Streak Pothos care is easy. Three basic requirements:
- Light: Bright, indirect light for best growth.
- Water: Water semi-frequently, before the soil completely dries out.
- Soil: Chunky and airy soil that retains some moisture.
Keep reading for more details on each of these requirements.
How Much Light Does My Silver Streak Pothos Need?
Like most other Epipremnum plants, the silver streak grows best in bright indirect light. This means, place the plant in a bright room in the house, a little bit back from the windows.
It can handle weak direct sunlight. However, too much direct sunlight will make the leaves burn.
Where is the best place to put this pothos?
I have my silver streak pothos near a giant south facing window. The plant sits against the wall, about seven feet diagonally away from the south windows.
Our living room is bright. In addition to the giant south facing windows, it also has west facing windows. But since we have a big open plan layout, the plant is pretty far from the west facing windows. It gets no direct sun from the west facing windows.
What Kind of Soil Does a Silver Streak Need?
This silver streak variety is similar to most all other epipremnum and aroid houseplants. It needs chunky and airy soil that retain some moisture.
Getting your houseplant into the appropriate potting mix is very important to the care. More importantly, it can tremendously simplify your watering routine.
I make my own chunky potting mix for this pothos. I have found that my pothos grow well when I use the following:
- 2 parts Tropical Potting Soil
- 1 part mix of airy material such as pumice, lava rocks, perlite
- 1 part Orchiata bark
Read more detailed instructions in my Aroid Potting Mix post. I also explain why plants love this mix.
How Often Do You Water a Silver Streak Pothos?
In general, water when the top few inches of the soil are dry. The soil should not dry out completely. However, this plant is sensitive to overwatering.
Aroid plants, such as this Epipremnum Amplissimum, cannot handle being overwatered. The roots do not like to stay wet too long and need to breathe.
Because of this, it is important to pot your silver streak pothos into an appropriate chunky and airy potting mix. A chunky and airy potting mix will deliver enough water to the plants. In addition, the potting mix has space to allow the roots space to breathe.
That being said, I find pothos to be a lot more flexible than other aroids, such as a Scindapsus.
As a rough guide, I water my plants about every 5-7 days in the summer. Then, in the winter, I water about every 10-14 days.
How Do I Know If My Pothos Is Happy?
A happy Silver Streak Pothos will have flat slender leaves that regularly produce new growth. It is a moderate grower, so you should be able to spot new leaves in various stages on the plant.
Why are my leaves curling or browning at the tips
When the plant is thirsty, the leaves will curl a bit, and the leaves might feel a little limp. You might be able to spot a bit of leaf curl in my photos, particularly at the tips.
I watered my Silver Streak shortly after taking these photos.
Also, my plant would ideally love more humidity. We are in the dead of winter and the heater is always running. Plus, we frequently use the fireplace in the living room.
That being said, the plant is still producing new growth and thriving. In the summer months, the leaves don't appear curled. Until winter, the leaf tips were a healthy green too.
Are Silver Streak Pothos Rare?
A Silver Streak Pothos is more uncommon than other pothos varieties. It's gaining some popularity, and in recent months, I have seen more online shops selling it.
Where to buy Silver Streak Pothos?
Surprisingly, I found mine at Walmart. However, I have only ever seen it sold in person that one time.
You can buy a Silver Streak Pothos on Amazon. You can also find it on various online plant shops though.
I have had really good experience buying plants from Canopy Plant Co., and they sometimes have the Epipremnum Amplissimum for about $25 for a 6'' plant.
Styling Tips for Epipremnum Amplissimum
The Epipremnum Amplissimum is a vining or climbing plant. Personally, I like to let plants vine downwards.
I have mine in a tall cylinder pot. I think the tall cylinder pot suits the silver streak's narrow leaves. The height of the pot and the leaves are roughly the same length, so it looks balanced.
My plant sits on a high shelf, so it can eventually trail down. Because the leaves grow upwards and are lengthy, it needs to sit on a top shelf, an open shelf, or a tabletop.
This plant would look great in a hanging basket too.

My SIL er Streak came in a self-watering pot (wick at bottom of pot that brings water up towards roots). Is this type of pot appropriate?
